Dok, I've never shot a Harley, nor rode a Luger </strong

I don't own a motorcycle, but if I ever do, it will be a Harley! (EOM)

If you have to ask ...

Jazz musician Louis Armstrong was once asked to define "jazz." His reply was, "If you have to ask, you'll never know."

Re: Collectables

Thank you all for your responses. Thinking more about it I no doubt neglected to realize that the $1000 Lugers of 20 years ago are probably those $3500 Lugers I see today. Today's $1000 Lugers are probably the $450 Lugers from 20 years ago.

I've been a accumulator of firearms since I was 16.

During those 31 years I have bought and sold hundreds of firearms.

Lugers were always somethng that fascinated me but I never really knew enough about them to be able to determine any particular pistol's value. I have bought two Lugers over the last ten years but no longer have either one of those first purchases. I bought both of the pistols from a fine older gentleman that obtained his pistols from the source.

One was a 1936 S42 and the other a byf41. Recently I've decided that it is time to scratch the Luger itch and to learn more about them and perhaps buy a few more.

This website has certainly been a tremendous source of information concerning Lugers and I now know a whole lot more about these pistols than before.

I must say I assumed incorrectly from viewing the user profiles and came up with my low member numbers for this forum.

I didn't mean to insult you guys.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Collectables

I agree with Marvin. My philosophy in my late coming to Luger acquisition is: "Once you have posession of a Luger, never give it up!" Except to pass it on to your descendents, of course.

On my fourth Harley and my fourth luger

I started out in 73' with a brand new Harley Electra Glide

(blue) and a missmatched DWM 9mm luger. The Harley was the better of the two.

I've since had about a 100 guns, FN FALs to Martini Henrys,

Artillery Lugers to Gold Cups.

I've owned about 20 bikes, Harleys, Nortons, Vincents, BMWs,

Hondas, and Yamahas.

I blew allot of money on planes too.

Best Regards,

Mike Halbrook

MK, if you can fit it in...

consider joining us at The World of Lugers, it will be my first trip, I missed the first two (somebody had to man the shop while everyone else was out having fun), but I shan't miss the next. I expect my knowledge quotient will go up, and my bank balance will go down, on that trip!!!

Dok 04-05-2001 07:30 AM

Frank... I think I see your problem... :) (EOM)

Frank 04-05-2001 08:41 AM

Re: Dok, I've never shot a Harley, nor rode a Luger

I have a Harley and 4 Lugers. They go hand in hand. I think its a "man" thing.

My Harley is a 1996 1200 Custom Sportster, Black/Silver with lots 'o chrome and now with Samson Big Guns 2 1/4" straight pipes (the Street Sweepers). Sounds good, runs hard and I kicked the ass of a buddy on a 2000 Fat Boy with the new Twin Cam 1450 V-Twin with Samson pipes and Thunderslide modified carb and free breathing air filter. At the time I still had the almost stock exhaust with only a Kury Akyn Hypercharger air cleaner and rejetted carb on my Sportster. After I whipped him once he apparently didnt get enough and I was forced to spank him one more time. Some people just never learn. Siiiigggghhhhhhh

Re: MK, if you can fit it in...

Is this the upcoming 'World of Lugers' Harley-Davidson tour I have been reading about? Sort of a "Toggle Action/ Sturgess Southwest" event? I would really like to know what kind of long term planning would be required to actually see Ralphs collection, meet some of you guys in person and not impose too much. (Seattle to Phoenix).

Otherwise known as the "Shattuck Run"... ;)

an interesting mix of leather and Clenzoil.... Hey maybe that's our next project... Luger Tatoos... Luger/Harley Tatoos... Hmmm endless possibilities....
