I was holding this stock last week. Its not fake, and shows all the age one would expect. Im 100% certain the US Property and Bomb motif are genuine.

All Ideal stocks are approximately the same age.

Just about exactly the same age. They were patented in 1901 but weren't produced until 1904, and then only for about a year before going defunct.

I took a few pictures and sent them to Mark as an example. I think you would be hard pressed to find a nicer set as the leather is soft and has no crazing and the metal is likewise in exceptional condition. Curt

That is one of the nicest I have seen Curt. Mine looks pretty good but to be honest it was a pile of red rust and rough leather when I got it. Cleaned up rather well though :)

The idea that Luger #5673 has anything to do with the Trials was debunked a long time ago.

Ron Woods stated the premise clearly
" However, in all fairness I have to acknowledge the possibility. The best rationale for such an otherwise dubious circumstance that I can entertain is the notion that someone with relatively high authority in the U.S. Ordnance department had sufficient interest and discretionary funds to make an exploratory purchase of the Ideal rig ancillary to the official Luger Test Trial contract. Being a totally commercial transaction to acquire items that then would become government property would tend to support the Ordnance property marking of the Ideal items and a corresponding association of them with the Luger for inventory purposes. I know that is a stretch, but not totally outside the realm of possibility, at least I would like to think so."
Ron knows more about test Luger than I ever will, so I will go with his opinion. When I worked for the Federal government we tested items of personal protective equipment that were bought in small lots by other federal agencies outside of formal testing lots, so I have no problem with the possibility of a purchase of a small lot prior to devoting resources to a full test.

I have never heard of a stock or pistol marked US Property (like a 1911 is )

...

I had never either.
Fort a while I also had a DWM 1900 AE with IDEAL STOCK in my collection.
