Lyn, thanks for the data. It's slow coming, but I think it's very interesting so far. I'll post some intrim result after a few more data points. It is much appreciated!!

Gentelmen: My "G" Date is 2512 "C" I think, the
Gothic Letter is very plainly marked as Johns
photos show, I just dont really know what I am looking at (the Gothic Alphabet)

Reguards...John (saturn6)

Frank 11-15-2003 10:39 AM

Carl and John, thanks for your data.

Carl, your serial number is the highest recorded for any G-Date!!!

John, if your acceptance marks on the right side of the receiver are W|154 & S92, then you pistol is about in the center of that range. The "Gothic G" is on top of the chamber and the "Script C" is just below the numbers on the front of the frame. Don't worry about the names of the letters!!

Hi Frank

Question: what does the DE/63 description mean that some have, at mine it is only stamped with 63 eagle.

Frank 11-23-2003 09:25 AM

Henrik, thank you for the data! Military Mausers have two different types of Waffenamt eagle markings. The earlier eagles have wings that are shown in a downward position or Droop Wings, thus DE. The later eagle marks are stick figure wings that are straight out from the eagle body, so they are called stick or straight wings, thus SE.

HCS 11-24-2003 08:37 AM

Hi Frank

Thank you for the explanation, then my P08 is marked SE/63 SE/63 DE.

HCS

Frank 11-24-2003 09:51 AM

Henrik, sorry, if your G-Date has stick eagle marks, it isn't a G-Date. G-Dates only have Droop Wing Eagle Marks!! If you send me an email with your email address, I'll send you a photo of both!!

HCS 11-30-2003 09:06 AM

Hi Frank

Sorry I replyed my last post from work, so I could not examine the P08, I remembered wrong, the eagles are all DE but two different ones, two
with small wings and one with longer wings. To repeat again it is marked DE/63 DE/63 DE(long ver. wings eagle without any number).

Frank 11-30-2003 09:19 AM

Henrik, thanks!! The DE/63 marks are acceptance indications (inspection) while the DE (without a number) is a test firing proof mark.

Hi Frank only other letter it can be is an (a) but no matter how hard I look its still a(d) to me

Frank 12-09-2003 09:17 PM

Richard, OK thanks for looking. The "a" alternate makes more sense than a "d". The "a" is within the data range and the "d" is about 8000 numbers too high. If you would send a photo to me, or post it here, I can take a stab at the identification. AND thanks for the data!!

There is a section showing the various suffix in the Technical Information that Ed Tinker worked up. It shows a very good example of both a G-Date "a" and "d"!! That might also help.

Purchased my first luger 2 weeks ago, it is a s/42 G date. Serial # is 2377 (no prefix or suffix) 211 (with eagle above it), S/92 and downward wings. It is supposed to be a war bring back, all parts visible in assembled mode match (haven't taken it apart yet).

Don't see any g-dates seriaql #'s without prefix or suffix? Am not knowledgable about lugers, but it appears to be in very good shape (also not very knowledgable about rating condition)

Frank 12-14-2003 03:31 PM

Hi Zeke, thanks for the attempt. In this post string, John Sabato has shown a photo of the frame front, just below the barrel, which is the location of the serial number, both numbers and the letter suffix.

Your Luger should have a "d" suffix, just below the numbers on the frame front. Please let me know!

Don H. 12-14-2003 05:05 PM

Frank I have one with D/E63 & D/E63 ser.#1989f also one I just sold that is W-154 & S/92 ser.#6669c Hope this helps Don

zeke 12-14-2003 11:13 PM

Frank-thanks for directing me, there is a small case "d" at the front of frame on the radius below the serial #. Am quessing it's a d, it appears to have a little upswept tail on it.

The mag is stamped 1798, and no letters but an eagle with 63 below it.

Always wanted a luger, rumored to be very accurate.

Frank 12-15-2003 12:53 AM

Zeke and Don H, thanks much for the data, it is all appreciated!

Zeke, the eagle on the magazine is most probably a stick or straight wing eagle. With no suffix, it was probably used for a late 1937 or early 1938 Luger. The proper magazine for your G-Date should DE/211 stamped where the E/63 is marked on your magazine.

QCMAN007 12-22-2003 10:31 PM

OK, from another newbie, a byf SE/41 Ser#4558r
Is this the correct info ?
