I am fine with leaving it as is. I just want to know more about it.

So this is what I'm starting to figure out with this forums help. It was made by DWM in 1929 for the Rif conflict but was not delivered. Ended up being issued to the Landjägerei. The mag safety was added around 1933 by a police armorer and then removed in 1937. And now it has made it all these years with its matching issue rig into my possession. Incredible!

Feel free to correct me. I am ok with being wrong, either way this is a beautiful pistol and I am fortunate to now own it.

Here are two sites I've used to find info.

Glad I was introduced to this forum. So much good stuff on here!

Eric,

I suspect it was manufactured in 1927-28 but not issued to the police until 1929. I suggest you search "Rif" on this and Jan Still's forum for more about this issue. Both the sear and mag safeties were added in about 1934 and the mag safeties were removed or disabled in 1937. Also, there is much, much more about these pistols and the Landjägerei in my book History Writ in Steel.

Thanks Don. Your book has been on my shopping list for a while now.

Eric, one of the search results for "Rif" on Jan Still's forum yields http://luger.gunboards.com/showthrea...&highlight=Rif. This is a long thread but worth reading if you're interested in this topic. It contains a lot of information that was unavailable when I wrote HWIS.

That is a very interesting read. Thank you Don. Looks like I need to join another forum.

Picked up a first edition of Lugers At Random yesterday. Great book. Be patient guys, I'm learning.

I'm going to the range this week. Any ammo recommendations?

Winchester White Box, 115 gr. FMJ is about the most economical you will find, available at WalMart. It is also the go-to round when shooting a Luger for the first time. Try it first and see how things go. Slight variations in load and OAL among manufacturers sometimes lead to feeding problems, and the WWB is a good point of reference. I keep a variety of ammo, in case of this fussiness, to help solve an issue should one arise.

Above all, avoid +p, +p+, any ammo marked "NATO", and steel-cased or steel core rounds.

Thanks. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. Cause I already have a couple of boxes of the Winchester laying around. I'm definitely not putting any +p or +p+ through this classic.

Nice Luger, STG, treasure and enjoy it! Bill

stg44fan 04-26-2017 11:26 PM

I will, thanks Bill.

But it looks kinda lonely in my safe. Maybe I should find another one to keep it company?
