In spite of what may be a personal taste "collectibles" are collectibles and should not have their marks and numbers painted if originally they were not, :nono: although some auction houses do it merely for an aesthetic point of view, so in my opinion is not a matter of what we prefer: painted or "au natural".

Anyway personally I love GLOCKs with painted numbers, but I prefer LUGERS, especially collectible ones, only with the GESICHERT painted, as they originally were.

No need to shout, it really is a personal preference- "Gott sie dank"
that there is no "fill in " police. JMHO.:D

The beauty of it is that it's an entirely reversible process, so if you don't like it you simply remove it.

I have done it on a few guns, but I'm not a great fan of it. It's nice if you want to show interesting and/or unusual stamps, and it can look pretty tasteful on guns that don't have many stamps (like Lugers). It can be a bit overwhelming if you overdo it though. For example: Import stamps should not be filled. :D

I leave them like I bought them, fill in- ok, no fill in ok too.

Often used as a distraction!

how to safely remove white marking fill?
 

Hello members-I'm expecting to receive an 06 Eagle with some white marking fill, which I personally don't care for.
I have a 3 day inspection period with the pistol.
I don't know what was used for the white fill-how can I safely remove unknown white marking fill?
Does the white letter fill sometimes damage the finish underneath?
Will I mess up the original finish if I try to remove the fill?

As Don said, solvents (acetone, lacquer thinner, paint thinner, alcohol etc) won't hurt the finish. I usually use acetone, it will dissolve just about anything you will encounter. Some kinds (like wax crayon) can even be dissolved with WD-40. Just dab it on with a q-tip, wipe off, dab on some more until it's gone. In deep stamps you may need to help it a bit with a brush, a glue brush (aka acid brush) with the bristles cut short works well for this.

You may want to remove the grips before you do it though, you don't want to get any solvent on them!
