-   -   WARNING - boosted "Navy" 1908 Commercial on Gunbroker (https://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=35123)

I don't understand. Its a "1908 Commercial DWM German army" that's a Navy. Riiiiight...

"This is a standard 1934 Model gun designated by collectors as the '36 S/42 Mauser". Huh? Is it a '34 or a '36? Is it a Mauser or a DWM?

"This is a basic collector gun." - that costs $8,500... What?

No pictures of the alleged "Stock lug" - nothing of the back strap whatsoever. Nothing of the toggle either...

DonVoigt 01-10-2016 05:01 PM

Besides being a "fake" pistol; the description and pictures seems to have mixed up two different pistols.

Ignore that man behind the curtain!

"Distraction" I am proud of you all! Eric~

It was a 1908 Commercial, so no lug.

The most amazing thing is that "Gunbroker" is using "Phoenixinvestmentarms" beautiful pictures, admittedly they know how to "present" things to make them appear far more valuable to people than they really are.
It's funny to see how a photograph can be deceiving, only a few months ago I saw a COLT 1911A1 advertised for sale with a gunshop site, I knew the seller and the price was interesting but they had taken really awful pictures with the flash and the gun looked interesting at the most for its "parts". A few days later I was able to have a proper "hands on" inspection, I could detail stripped it, and I was simply amazed, that gun was absolutely nice, so in the end I bought it, and now it's showing itself off in my armoured window together with all the others.

Sergio,
It is a "PIA" auction, so it makes sense they use their own pictures.

Sorry I read "GUN BROKER" so I assumed that was an auction held by them.

Gunbroker is one of the online selling auction sites(Gunauction is the other, there may be more), anyone can list an item for sale there and use their own pictues.

Ahh! that's clear, I didn't know that.
Thanks and have a nice afternoon.

Oh yes absolutely, I would never buy anything at a gun auction, mainly for two reasons 1st I'm only a very small collector, and 2nd I would be scared to get a lemon.
Have a nice day Eric.

Relisted once again!

He remains hopeful! After not selling at $8,500 for the past couple of months he has once again relisted it. But he raised the price $1,000!

Hi Mike.

My experience with PIA about 10 years ago was very similar to yours. It cost me $500 to buy myself out of a misrepresented gun. My $3895, "all-matching" Black Widow Rig had a mismatched holdopen, droop eagle 63-proofed tool, and spare magazine that was stamped "Made in Italy". How this gentleman can sleep at night I will never know.

Browsing thru Ebay, I found multiple auctions for stamps for P08 lugers. There must be a demand for these by fakers. As in any high priced vintage firearms, there are those who wish to dupe the uninformed buyers.

Sadly, some sucker took the bait.

OMG! The "M" on that holster looks like it was etched with a hangnail.

I feel sorry for the guy who bought into this boosted lot.

Norme 08-11-2017 02:07 PM

This seller claims to take returns, however he charges a 20% "Restocking fee"! That can get expensive.

Notice that the leather is listed as soft and "subtle" rather than "supple"...perhaps there is a subtle hint there.
