I believe the dents were a hardness check by the armory.

Thanks Wayne , The description by Diver6106 of the dots is right IMHO .
The four point star is a reject mark and entirely different than the dots . I am going to say " don't know " on the external numbers other than they are probably post-manufacturing . The good point is the normal inside proofs-number look good so it is not a mismatched gun . IMHO HK's are far and away the most variation rich and interesting Lugers and there were only something over 11,000 made . About the same as Simson but no comparison on the neat-o-meter . Not to knock Simsons but they look like Erfurts to me and are all pretty much the same . Dave |
Thanks David !! I appreciate the information. I figured they meant something -- just wasn't sure. I am finding out more and more that Lugers have an amazing array of markings which just makes them all the more interesting !!

Dave, thanks for your time and interest in responding to my post. I learned alot and realize I have a lot of studying to do ahead of me about Lugers. No doubt there are lots of pitfalls in the collecting of Lugers. I will be utilizing this Forum for information and as a location source for future purchases. Luger 7313's past exposure on this Forum and the members involved was a big factor in my decision to purchase it in the first place.
Best Regards, Wayne |
