If you go the auction route, make sure that you or the person you choose to broker it through understands that you have a minimum number of dollars you will take for it.

These "no minimum bid" auctions are often deceptive.

I personally would be very reluctant to send a Luger across the country to a somebody going by "Jack the Dog", hoping that I would soon get a big fat check in return.
But Alvin is right that the for sale section here works slowly. Partially because you are dealing with a more educated clientele here. The really hard sells, here and elsewhere, are the very specialized and rare models. Low end collector guns or shooters should go quickly. Plus a lot of potential buyers here have C&R licenses, making your life a bit less complicated.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

PS: That side plate still looks wrong...

Lower right corner of the left side... The picture has a bit of a shadow. Not sure if it is chipped, worn, or carved. It is smooth and looks finished.

looks like a big chip to me. Hugh or Jim Solomon could fix it for you. :)

From picture, that area lost a small piece of wood. Stain was applied to the "wound" to make the color matching the rest of the panel. Not surprising, it's an old gun.
