Cut Loops

Also, the GI's could not get the holster onto their issued web gear so they, often, cut the loops and put two small cuts into the body...then, they inserted a standard wire loop and were able to hang it on their web belt.

Other wise, you had to carry the damn thing in a pack or stuffed into your shirt.

Re: Cut Loops

Orv,

The first Luger holster I saw with the Norwegian belt hanger was told to me (and sold to me!) as a GI conversion so it could be worn on their belt. At least I did not pay a high price for the holster, but as you buy, you learn.

Re: Cut Loops

At a gun show last year I came across a holster that had the loops cut off of it. The holes had been patched and new loops were sewn back on to it. The gentleman who was selling it explained that it was a common practice among soldiers who captured these to cut the loops and add the belt hanger to them. He was quite honest about it and was selling it for really cheap.

Funny stuff...

from a realistic perspective, I know that when situations come to you, you jsut react. I am sure I wouldn't give a rats ... if I damaged the holster under fire or in a scary situation, I just wanted the pistol.

I'm sure we all remember throwing away some stupid box as a kid ofr a toy, now collectors would pay you hundreds of dollars for a box, not even caring if you had the toy, so some GI grabbing up a holster with a Luger in it, would just say, oh well.

Cut Loops

I own several that still have the wire web hanger still on it. Me, I consider it to be a real piece of history...not a butchered holster! But then, as my wife points out, I am a NUT!
