Fascinating!

My book says it had an Alfa-Romeo liquid-cooled V12 (a licensed copy of the Diamler-Benz inverted V-12 engine used in the BF-109E-1) developing 1075hp and capable of 595kph/370mph...Impressive for the beginning of the War...

Oooh!!! Here's a video showing the C.200 Machi 'Saetta' (in the opening) - radial engined & comparatively slow [313mph], but really cool looking!!!

Franco was actually a different ballgame. Nasty as he was, he kept Spain from going communist and respected and protected the Royal Family. Hollywood loves to romanticize the "Republican" side of the Spanish Civil War, but they were in fact communists trying to establish themselves. Spain, for better or worse, is where it is today thanks to Franco.

You never hear much about Spain! I loved it and bought my first guitar. The tapas, paella, sangria to name a few. It was all downhill when the entire treasure fleet got caught in a hurricane in 1715. The entire fleet except one got destroyed off our Florida coast only to be found or part of it in the 60s. These are from the this wreck site~ http://www.atocha1622.com/mclarty.htm

In case you are still interested I've found another short film about the WWII where are shown the old CR 42 biplane that were already "born old", but also the Macchi 200, the FIAT G50 (that were far too slow), the SM79 Sparviero, the CANT Z 1007, the FIAT DR20 probably the first entirely built in metal, the SM82 a very good transporter but still with wooden wings, the good Macchi 205 and Fiat G55 that were build far too late.

P.S.

To Alanint

With all the respect, I don't think that Italian pilots were thugs only because were on the wrong side, they were not fanatics, but simply soldiers.

I just like the looks of the C.200...Quite similar to the G50...
