Well, sometimes you get lucky and things are sold way under their market value.

Last year I bought a very nice, all original Imperial military C96 for about $700. Just because nobody else bid on it. It happens.

Wow - that is one FINE example!

Actually, my wife is VERY good about be buying stuff so a Luger Tool is not a big deal. Since we've been married, she's let me buy a 1943 Kübelwagen, a 1944 Schwimmwagen, a 1939 BMW R66 with sidecar, a 1939 Mercedes 170V staff car, countless German uniforms, helmets and pieces of field gear. That doesn't even scratch the surface when we start talking about guns....MP40, MP43, MP44, MG42, MG34, G43, P38's, Lugers. PP's, PPK's, HSc's, Broomhandles, dozens of K98's......and that's just some of the German stuff.....

Crown M proof signifies Navy, right? But according to Klaus' observation--not another in 11,000--then this suggests fake. Then again, evidence of absence is not the same absence of evidence. I'm anxious to hear more... We haven't heard from Ron Wood yet; I'll bet he will have a juicy tidbit for us about this piece.

Crown M proof signifies Navy, right? Not in this case.

Wow - I'm impressed indeed. I'd love to have one - or a 170D. And a KübelWagen too!

Matching tools have one of the acceptance marks we can find on the Luger. The tools are as rare as we can find the acceptance on the receivers. There are not many Lugers or tools with 4 lobes C/M. (I saw several of them but not one for my collection.)
