Just got the new 1913 barrel and upper and WOW they look awesome! All I need to do to it is to remove the old finish is in great shape. I'll post up pics in a bit.

It doesn't stink, but it does smell of iron when you boil. My wife always makes comments about it, but it's not unpleasant by any means so she just puts up with it. It can make a mess on the stove though (and unfortunately, ours is white ceramic... ), but it will wipe off easily.

In that case I'll probly just use my small propane Coleman stove and do it in the garage.

Seems I screwed up and offended a bunch of people doing what I have so far if I have offened you I am sorry I never intended to offend anyone of upset them either. I was quoted a grand to restore it to a mantel piece and that wasn't the direction I wanted to go with this gun and it was more then I could afford to spend to have it done. I understand the cost and do not question it but I can't afford it so I decided to do what I could and possibly have a pro finish it, it seems by doing what I have I screwed up and will have to do it all by myself. If you are one I have offended I'm truly sorry and am only trying to finish what my father started years ago.

?? What does anyone have to be offended about?

Thanks Rick! Yeah I live in Maryland so I have humidity to spare lemme know if you need any. ;)
Rust bluing sounds like the route I may wind up taking as its something it sounds like I an do. I plan to order a book on how to do it when I order the rust bluing from Brownels so I can read up on how to do it properly.

Looks like I'll be doing the whole thing myself start to finish which is cool.

Which book are you planning to buy? There's some good literature on the topic, but the books you usually hear about (like Angier) are rather old, and due to the antiquated nomenclature and the intended audience they are very complicated to follow for a beginner. It never hurts to read up, but I'd say that this thread covers the subject in a more comprehensive format than any book I have ever read: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=27280

You're obviously not shooting for a show winner, so if you skip the part about mixing your own formula you'll find that the procedure is rather simple.

Cool Olle thanks man! I figure anything I can read and learn on this subject can't do anything but help me so the more info the better.
