Re: â??CROW BREAST ON PUMPERNICKLEâ?

I find no problem in my premise that the stock lug was used in the machining process which you seem to have changed your mind about. I also indicated my belief that the lug was not used for the attachment of a shoulder stock , as no stocks were available or even comtemplated for production. The few remaining Navy and LP08 stock boards would not have justified the continued machining operations required to keep the stock lug on the P08 on the long shot that someone might want to attach a shoulder stock. That there were no shoulder stocks available is fact; all else is theory.

As to all the questions of why the stock lug was used or not used, it's original function was for the attachment of a shoulder stock. It is not uncommon to find a secondary use not originally planned in the original design, and I believe you have indicated this in your article/treatise. The secondary function of the stock lug then became the primary function.

This too is theory, but the stock lug could have been removed from the rough frame forging much easier than the series of complex maching operations to complete the lug should it's only function be the possible attachment of a shoulder stock. If not totally removed, the final machining operations to make the stock lug fully functional were totally unnecessary and could have been deleted.
