I found the thread on the Borchardt build. I just can't figure out how to link it here, but the member was TennBill2.

Just look at my safe , and Luger to Mauser ratio is 3 to 1

Icons are icons, and we can not do anything about that we can just follow, or go a different direction ;0)

How about building semi-auto 902 instead of common 900. As long as you sell it around $1k, you can create a market.

Never mind, it's hobby after all. Fun first.

Putting $200k to do 45acp Luger is probably fun. But I feel that will lose money. Unless you can compete with other post war Luger variations on cost.

Wasn't going to get in this but... I fail to see any reason to build any caliber on a luger look alike. We have many good 1911 clones and 45 compacts. We have many other good autos and revolvers. Seems like more everyday. So why a luger? It still will not be a genuine luger just another auto at a very high price. Whatever anyone wants but I will stick to original lugers and reasonable priced other firearms that are readily available. Just my 2 cents.

I'm with you Bill, but didn't want to pour water on this parade. I collect Lugers, but have no interest in paying five figures for a temperamental fantasy gun in 45 cal. If I want to shoot 45 ACP, I reach for my Kimber 1911, it's 100% reliable, accurate, and cost less than $1,100.00. Regards, Norm

To each his own...

This is why this country is so good...

Some like rice, somebody like bread.. both cure there hunger... each in it's own way.

BY your logic, no one w'd be interested in carbine conversion...
But i build 6-or 7 each year , and i have not seen single one for sale ....

Because original is 15-25K and conversion is only a 4K price tag,
Much more affordable and shotable at that.

Same goes for a 45 conversion, meany people want them, we know they are out there, but no one is selling ...

And you responding to the topic that does not really interest you ;0)

Imagine the response from the people that are ...

I sell carbines faster then i can build them, I suspect same will go for a 45 GAP conversion.

There is allot of people that are looking for something that no one has..

I got in to this fro same reason...

I like to create ... something that no one has or no one will do...

I need a new toy ... but i already have everything that i care to buy at the store.. so what am i to do ?

I think i will build myself a 45 Luger ;0)

And then I will think of something else ;0)

And A PRICE FOR THE 45 gap conversion will be right around 3K...

Big , but not crazy...

I may be missing something, but I read and re-read his post and could not find where he said the forum was thus restricted.

The first words in the post were,

To each his own..
Then he hit the nail on the head with this:

And you responding to the topic that does not really interest you ;0)
Ironically, I see mods telling posters this all the time- "If it doesn't interest you, don't post in it."

Lugerman the GAP idea is

Spending time doing market survey? :)

C&R gun related business may enjoy a brighter future in next decade. Millions baby boomers are retiring and some of them will take gun collecting as a new hobby.

Add to this the sad passing of thousands of WW2, Korean War and VN vets, which will presumably inject thousands of otherwise unknown guns into the collector market.

Hi Eugene, Mike Krause is a pretty savvy business man, if he feels the market for high priced 45 cal Luger reproductions is saturated at 50, then it probably is. A 45 GAP for 3k is another story, if you can pull it off. All the best, Norm

When I talked to Mike Krause, it sounded like he is getting older and feels like he has paid his dues to the Luger collecting society.
He did not say anything about 50 Lugers been enough for all the Luger collectors out there...

And then again, if he is good business man, he may be trying to make me believe that's the case... to sell me some blue prints :)

As far as 45 GAP luger conversion ... I do not see any big problems. After all we can surely go where others have gone before .. right ?

I am not the same person I was 10 years ago, trying to build my first carbine ...

Times have changed... i have machines that i did not dare to dream about 10 years ago...
Maybe pocket change for some... but a gold mine for others

All and all 45 GAP is coming ... soon.
