Unfortunately, it's a mismatched gun and I had to return it. Also got a wood stock for it from another seller, and found it's a parts stock as well.... also returned.

Acquiring C&R remotely definitely has some remote-business-specific risk. When holding in hands, those problems were so easy to identify. But when viewing from pictures, not easy.

Fortunately, I always ask 3-day inspection upon delivery.

fully agree with you on that, pictures are good but nothing like hands on inspection.

Did you not like the gun because you don't want a mismatched, or just not a mismatched at the price you were paying?

I don't like mismatched gun, especially when the price was paid for a matched gun's value.

Over past 4-5 years, I returned two Cone Hammers, two Small Rings, two Red 9s, two Bolos, and two 1930s. Some were totally unacceptable, some were marginally OK, but considering the cost, no.

Your experiences don't speak well for online sellers (I'm assuming gunbroker style buys?). Have you had anyone balk at you wanting to return one? This broomhandle I purchased was my first online buy, and I feel I did okay, even though I had to fiddle with it to make it work.

Not really. I always get agreement on "3-day inspection" before I consider most C&R.

Most sellers are decent. Some ask reasons, I gave them reason, so they could enhance on their side in future. Some don't even ask. Some items only stayed in my hands for a few minutes, I called the seller and returned in the same shipping box in the same day.

On extreme case, one ebay seller even felt happy that I could return a $400-500 stock back to him. He immediately sold it to another guy for $800.

Auction house could be hard to handle though. They have enough resource to move domain experts to argue.

When something looks wrong, usually appear on two or more places, combined together, I am sure it's wrong. Sometimes, it's single suspicious area, I would agree it's arguable.... Very rare situation though.
