Do silencers affect accuracy!

That decision probably has cost the hearing of many hunters.

I have tinnitus for previously hunting without. So for me it would make more sense to me if it was mandatory rather than with restrictions.

yes. On all rifles I have tried, it has been an improvement. Long range target shooters here in Norway use it for e.g 338LM, primary not to reduce sound, but to gain some accuracy. It has to do with the harmonic vibrations of the barrel, adding any weight on the muzzle area, would in most cases improve the accuracy. Also, by reducing the recoil, most people for various reasons just shoot better..

That and the obvious advantages they offered for eliminating others discreetly.

That depends on the area. In Eastern Kentucky people do not use silencers, but I have seen only one game warden since 1967. In 1963, I was standing on my mother-in-law's porch and there was this guy walking down the fields carrying his catch. (It was not hunting season.) There was a (young) game warden. in his car, who kept stoping and yelling for the guy to come over to the road (to his car).

The terrain was hills, the road, a small creek (with bridges) fields and hills.

The guy never went across the creek and turned uo ino a hollar a little bit down. The I head two more shots from the guy's shotgun. The game warden did not follow him and left.

It was my impression that the word suppressor was used with military weapons like my M1D Garand. It has a flash suppressor so that the enemy would have a harder time finding you. I never heard a silencer called a suppressor. Never to old to learn something new I guess.

Back in the eighties, when I was living in the New Jersey mafia belt (Soprano country), one of my neighbors made the local papers when he was arrested in connection with the disappearance of his business partner. He was found to be in possession of a silenced pistol, which he claimed was for pest control, and he "didn't want to disturb the neighbors". He beat the murder rap but I believe he served time for the pistol. Regards, Norm
