I must say he did a pretty fair job of cleaning it up. I did not think it could clean up that well. I see I have much to learn on how well a older well worn Luger can clean up. I still feel I would not have bid(with commision) $1,700 for it after cleaning. I will keep a eye on the auction to see what it brings. Thanks for the update.

knowledge is everything; I learned that a long time ago. Problem with auctions is that you can't tear it down to check for numbers usually and hopefully you'll have a chance to check the bore; although I am not a bore guy and forget many times to look.

0000 steel wool or better yet, copper steel wool 0000 and some oil cleans up the finish very much without hurting the bluing at all. I have had some guns clean up very nicely after some judicious and careful cleaning.

Thanks Ed, I would need to start with a 'in need of help' Luger before I was brave enough to take 0000 steel wool to it. I take that is what the buyer of that AE did to it, as it looks far better now on his online auction page than it did at the live auction. I see he listed it for around what he paid for it and got no bids. I hope he can recoup his investment at the next auction!

That gun does look a lot better,he also took some "well angled" pics (nothing against it "just saying").I hope he can get his money but I don't feel like I missed anything at the price it sold at.

Your doing the right thing, learning on here, Ed and the others are happy to show the ropes and hopefully cut down on the money spent "going to school" buy buying to high.These forums are the best.
