Thanks Mike! Wow...that helps a lot...I've enlisted some help in my hometown in trying to find info on this soldier who knew my dad, and where he had been during his service.

Oh, and what does it mean to have it "reworked/rebarreled"? The original barrel bored out?

Hate to say, but in all this time I still have not located any family of the man that originally brought this back. I do have a friend that's involved in a new Veterans Museum back home, and hoping he can dig into it more...

Make sure you remove the red oxide rust from the grip. Use well oiled 0000 steel wool on a well oiled rust surface and be gentle and patient. Marc |

The rivet looks to be made of something other than steel. Can the owner verify this?
