Ben,

Just great pictures. They confirm earlier thoughts. The SN on the left receiver was struck after proofing and blueing - very probably because it was a mandatory marking for the German Police.

The barrel is original. The SN and 'v' suffix are 100% OK and the witness mark is sound too.

So that leaves us with a very unusual Luger. As said before I have seen only one other Luger pistol having a sear safety and a 7.65mm caliber barrel. This SN 1039v, assembled by Mauser using parts that came in 1930 from BKIW/DWM is an unique piece.

However, unique pieces like this could present an inconvenience for the owner. As it is obviously not corresponding to the 'normal' properties of the well established 1934 Oberndorf Mauser Lugers other collectors might not be interested to add it to their collection.

A very last question;
Just for my files I would like to know if the base of the front sight has a capital 'D' stamped on its front. A picture is not needed, just have a look and tell me what you see...
