Hi Jack,
Thanks for the extra photos. The gun looks just fine to me, the last 2 digits of the barrel serial look like the die bounced a little, but the halos look correct as does the halo effect on the witness mark. The matching mag looks correct also.
The magazine pouch, as George has said, is Portuguese and not Imperial Navy, and as such is worth a lot less than an original Navy. I don't know what to make of the stock, it's certainly not an original Navy. Is the disc brass or lacquered steel?
I don't know what you paid, but the gun and mag alone are quite valuable.
Regards, Norm

rhuff:
The 3 & 8 aren't perfectly lined up with the 22 in either position under the barrel but are the same font.

The disk appears to be brass to me.
Jack

Norme 03-07-2017 03:49 PM

Hi Jack,
If the disc is indeed brass than the stock is a repro.
Regards, Norm

Jackm The disk appears to be brass to me. See if a magnet sticks to it.

George Anderson 03-07-2017 04:15 PM

The stock is one made by or for Odin and is made of maple.

A magnet does not stick. So I guess that settles it. I'll be in touch with the man that sold it to me. He is a long time friend of a friend and will make it good.
Thanks
Jack

Worth:
Gun w one MM approx. 7000
Stock 200
Pouch 100
Bob

The pistol appears to be in fine condition. Easily worth Bob's $7,000 if it's all matching, and could fetch $8,000 in the right sale.

$300 for the stock and pouch is generous.

Pics that are pertinent to the gun value. Re-entered as others were there and then they were gone.
The gun is in better than superb condition. It is all matching including the mag; which is banged up on both ears - on the wood. One can be seen in the picture. Only bluing is worn areas of grip straps. Strawing is say 60 %; No scratches, abrasions a slight amount of rust under the grips. It is a beautiful gun and has stood the test of time in remarkable shape. Grips appear to have the right amount of wear to solidify her age.
What is she worth.

Cap
GT can fix that mag bottom. He has did 2 for me. Bill

CAP Black 03-08-2017 04:24 PM

Will that add to or take away from collectors' interest?
Thanks Bill.
Jack

Hi Jack,
Since the mag base doesn't have a crack that needs stabilizing I'd leave well enough alone.

I would not mess with the magazine either; leave it original- any work would only raise questions about it. JMHO.

As to value, surely you know what you paid/traded/have in it; that is a known value basis.
You no doubt know that luger prices are all over the map and any single item depends not only on how "nice" it is- but where, when, how, and to whom it is sold!

CAP Black 03-08-2017 11:00 PM

I have wiped the oil and grime from the gun; inside and out. There was only gunk inside; no rust or missed bluing. Even the strawing is better than I first thought. The grip straps are good bluing and I would say the bluing is 98 %; strawing perhaps 75 %. Holster wear is only very slight.no scratches or bad areas.
It is indeed a real jewel of a gun. I would like to see a better Navy although there probably are some. I can only imagine and I can only hope to see one or own one. A few pics will come when I get the inside de-gunked.

Cap
I seem to be in the minority on the mag. I will only say that when GT gets through with it you will not be able to tell it has been worked on. A beautiful luger like this deserves a decent looking mag. Bill

CAP Black 03-09-2017 09:08 AM

I am betwixt and between on repairing the mag.
Thanks
Jack
