Whats with the hats?

Ron Wood 09-27-2016 05:53 PM

I suspect the "hats" photo is a staged shot indicating that the individual had been promoted and was now authorized to wear "scrambled eggs" on his cap visor and is discarding his old cap overboard.

Yes I was Navy 1953-1957 Sonarman on a ww2 destroyer. Bill

Ron the hat being tossed overboard is a Chiefs hat so my guess is he got Commissioned and was tossing the enlisted life behind.

Bill I was also a sonarman on FFG 55 USS Elroy Now decommissioned and wasting away here in the Philly Navy Yard.

Wayne,
I think you are probably right and I think that could be considered quite a "promotion". I had a similar experience as I went from enlisted to Commissioned and experienced significant life changes.

Definitely a Chiefs hat. Probably to an Ensign.
Wayne. When were you in the Navy fellow ping p---y? Bill

wayne8661 09-27-2016 08:12 PM

I was a few years after you. 93-97

Tag FRX-615 I guess the pass came from our Ford dealership! It found with all my childhood memories attached! Eric

Me, I realized I was getting old when it seemed to me that every cop I saw should be in high school instead of in uniform.
