A couple of years ago the Aus Navy sank an old warship off the WA coast as an artifical reef. Towed it out to the site and one of the Collins class boats stuck a fish into her as a training excercise. Big pictures in the paper at the time.

The an old submariner wrote to the letters column saying something like "good job lads, now try it whilst your target is doing 15 knots on twenty foot seas and dropping depth charges on you!"

What is not widely known is that in the Pacific, US submarines where often used to deliver Z Force operations. You think those old boats look cramped, add to the mix, the crew, all the crews gear and supplies, plus a dozen or so large Aussies and all their gear travelling somewhere with the intention of extreme mishief!

Now that's cramped!

Those Submariners deserve nothing but absolute respect.
