I suspect that you have inadvertantly struck the "Caps Lock" key on your keyboard which reverses the action of the "shift" key. With "Caps Lock" on, you type in all upper case letters and depressing the "Shift" key while typing a letter reverts to lower case. Just hit the "Caps Lock" key again and everything should return to normal.
