I've searched for a simple, low-profile adapter that has a dovetail on the bottom to fit onto the one cut for the rifle's rear sight, and about 2 inches of 21 mm rail on top, but could not find such a thing as of this writing.

Anybody have a lead to a source?
Cut the wings off a used sight, or just the base- they are sometimes around.
Then screw a section of rail to the cut off "dovetail platform".

I'd like to keep it as low profile as possible. I was thinking that a section of rail trimmed to desired length, to the bottom of which I'd weld the dovetail's male piece would do the trick for saving the most vertical space. In a pinch, I think I could fashion the bottom dovetail bit myself, or have my machinist hog one out. Or maybe more, if anyone else would be interested.

There's a special tool for removing M! carbine sights without bending them, how easy are those tools to encounter/obtain/rent? Otherwise, it would be possible to drift the sight assembly out of the dovetail with a brass-ended punch, right?
