When people say matching grips, they mean that on the underside of the wood grips there should be a two digit number. Sometimes its hard to find. If no number is there than is not bad. This number should be the same as the last two digits of the serial number on the front of the frame.
Every metal part, except springs and pins, should have this two digit number. The underside of the barrel should have the same serial number as the one found on the front of the frame.
Rons suggestion for cleaning rust is good but do not spare the oil. AND DO GO LIGHTLY until you get the feel for what you are doing. Since you are new to Lugers, maybe its best not to do anything about any rust at this time. Sometimes new Luger people try too hard.
This is just the beginning of examining a Luger for authenticity. If the barrel is too perfect then examine it to see if its been replaced. But its the start of a long journey. Too much to cover in one posting. Keep reading this forum. There are a lot of intelligent people here willing to help.
I too think that the price is a bit high. But I don't know the French market or the situation with the Euro. The above prices seem about right for America.
Good Luck,
Big Norm
