Most of the time when I see a grip safety like that, it isn't a broken spring, it just wasn't reassembled correctly. Many years ago I bought an '06 AE pretty cheaply at a country gun and tackle shop because the owner thought the grip safety was broken. When I got home it turned out I just needed to properly install the safety.
