Luger Blank Adapting

Normally speaking, threading the inside of the barrel from the muzzle end, and installing a suitable plug with a small vent hole will do the trick. Working out the diameter of the vent hole is the hard part.

That is how they murder P08 pistols over here for re-enactors, at least.

Yes, but doesn't the action need to be modified so that it will cycle just from the pressure created by the barrel plug? Won't it stay locked without the normal recoil from a live round?

The pressure needed to cycle the gun should be generated by the plug with vent hole itself.

Similar systems have been used for years as gov't training adaptors. I have shot a 9mm uzi with blanks and a barrel adaptor, these were fitted over the muzzle. AR15's had similar adaptors fitted. All with the same basic principle: reduce muzzle size to increase gas pressure to facilitate cycling on a blank.

When I went through ITR, an instructor showed us a 'field expedient blank adapter'. He stuck the first section of the M16 cleaning rod (the part with the handle) into the muzzle and pressed the rod/rifle against a tree. He then rattled off 20 blank rounds at full auto. No practical use of course, but it shows how much 'choke' is needed to cycle the action.
