true Geo - although my 1939 from my WWII friend said it was a carton of cigarettes

Unless he was an officer, GI's didn't (and still don't) have enough loose cash for cartons.

IIRC, as late as 1970, a draft at the Enlisted Club was $.25, and I never had enough for more than two or three...

The only time I saw cigarettes was in a box of C-Rats...
