Took carb cleaner and shot the finish off the grips. Then hit them with some light oil.
They look better but still reddish. Must be mahogany instead of walnut.

You might expect mahogany from the PI.

I just don't understand why you buy a pistol and right away want to change the finish! Just shoot it.

I saw a "real" Colt .38 super at the LGS this am, for $900 I almost bought it for you.

Like it better that way. Reddish grips or not.

My only qualm, I find the checkering way to big.

With some USGI repro grips it would be just what the doctor ordered.

Took a look at the specs.

They are indeed mahogany.
