Any Suggestions On Protecting Our Guns

I've lived in, and loved the desert all life, but I am ready for a green lawn again......not sure of the snow of my new home in S. Dakota......how do you find your fired brass when out shooting?

You find it when you mow the yard in the spring, normally when they fly through a window.

As for the storage question: I would look into those waterproof storage containers they sell on the "prepper/survivalist" web sites. Some of them are made to be buried in the ground, so they should hold up well to any water related situation. Just need to make sure they are secured somehow, it would be a real downer if your collection got washed out in the ocean.
