In the 60s I collected German uniforms.
Some guys I knew got hooked up with an old lady in Germany who would scour neighborhoods and get lots of things still hanging in closets. Every couple months a big box would show up and it was a hoot to see what she had found. Waffenrocks were the most common followed by anything else you could imagine. A general's overcoat and a black SS hauptampt tunic stand out. Most had eagles removed or swastikas clipped. You'd find them in pockets along with change, tickets and dog tags. Best piece I got was an assault gun Captains wrapper-worth about $50 then. I kept an infantry crusher I paid $5 for. |
