From what I have seen, the sn is only 'x'd out if the frame or receiver is changed, otherwise, the 'X" is on the left, i assume to show it was checked by the repair person.

The replaced parts will have the sn 'x'd out and new number put on.

Keep in mind that your russian capture has WW1 and WW2 parts

The obvious things between a 1900 and 1908 to me are;

1. Toggle that includes different ears, different ejector
2. Barrel length and caliber
3. Frame is longer on 1900 (see tutorial in archived area)
4. Trigger, firing pin, take down i think is slightly different
