Nice that they forgot the 'mother of all assault rifles' (and the rifle that gave them their name) the Sturmgewehr 44.

I find it interesting that ammunition [7.92 Kurz] for the STG44 was still being manufactured in 1961 (if I'm reading the case correctly)...

7.92 Kurz next to 7.92 x 57...

The Kurz round is steel cased...

I haven't come across any reference to these 'assault rifles' being used by anyone following WW II...Has anyone else???

The East Germans and Czechs used the MP44 into the 1960s and the Czechs still produced ammunition for the gun until very recently. A friend that is an arms importer tells of crates upon crates of MP44s in Egypt in the late 1990s!
