This past Sunday I went to the funeral of my uncle, Harold A. Courtney, who was a sergeant with the 1269th Engineer Combat Batallion assigned to the 101st in the Berchtesgaden area toward the end of the war. If you remember the enterviews with the veterans in the last episode of Band of Brothers, one mentions the Goring treasure cave. My uncle was instrumental in opening the cave. He made it through three years of the war in Europe only to lose his life to a freak accident in his own backyard.
