If your intent is truly to buy a Luger you can shoot and study, by all means buy a shooting quality--mismatched, reblued, whatever--Luger. An "entry-level" (whatever exactly that means?) matching gun can, by careful shopping and paying attention, can be had for less than Ralph's quotation.

$1,400 or more for a Luger is in the realm of a collection quality gun, and you are rightly horrified at the thought of shooting such a Luger. The advice to do so is at the least, ill-considered.

Shooting a non-matching or other shooting quality Luger can be perfectly fine--there are those of us here who do it all the time. As far as where to go to get one, post a request in the "wanted to buy" Forum here (along with your projected budget) and see what comes out of the woodwork.
