When someone is trying to sell a firearm, stories can get on the "wild" side. When buying a firearm, buy the weapon, not the story unless there is definite proof! The dealer wants to sell the item.
With that said, I checked my verified SS, RSHA - Reich Security Main Office, issued Walthers. Most of these were the PPK, but a few PPs were issued. The closest S/N listed is 204111 P, issued to Karl Dettmann, a Kriminalangestelter (acting detective), issued Nov 12 1943. Could it have been issued to an SS person, possibly, but without poof it is just a story. The SS, from what I have read, did not buy in large "blocks" to issue. Officers of the SS probably had to buy their own handguns like the miltary officers, so any S/N could show up. I am not sure of the time of manufacture, but it would be in the early 1940s |
