If I recall the Luger in question is a 41 byf. The Nazi Eagle Proof started with the 1939 Code 42, so it is a proper proof mark. I believe Rick K's explanation regarding the comments are what I would think. Regarding the magazine. Try firing one cartridge from the pistol at a time and note the hold open function. If the cartridge is not powerful enough the toggle action will not be forced back far enough to engage the hold open. If the magazine spring isn't strong enough it won't activate the hold open. If for some reason the follower button on the magazine does not contact the hold open it won't work either. If you remove the right side grip and insert an empty magazine you can observe the reaction between the follower button and the hold open lever. Then manually operate the toggle and see what the button contact does. Good Luck
