This is my second time I am missing a screw and washer on one of my artillery stocks. I am making arrangments for a replacement. Does it only happen to me? Is it caused by shrinking of the hundred year old wood or mishandling~ Eric

You aren't missing anything. The same screw and washer that secures the strap for the boot also secures the loop for the toe of the holster. You need to look at some photos in your books or on line to see how it all goes together.

Hole is probably "stripped" out.
I'd fix it with a plug held in with epoxy or just epoxy as it will not show. Surely you don't handle it that much!
