Hi John, Well I did buy this in the early 60s, but as I said there is no sign of the M2 being ground off and it definately has not been refinished. On of the gunsmiths who looked at it is a professional refinisher of Winchester rifles and he says it's the original finish. BTW the proof is as shown in your pic. Best regards, Walt
