Bill,
* Your byf'43, S/N 141, is a P.38 made by Mauser for the Police. The L/H slide Eagle should be an Eagle N commercial proof. The R/H slide Eagle L is the Police Inspector's Acceptance mark.
* Interesting is the E/N mark location between the S/N and the tip of the safety/Hammer dropping lever. Later Police P.38's had this mark moved to the left of the S/N.
* Most of these Police guns are thought to have been assembled in 1944; hence, the "humped" frame & unrelieved extractor cut.
