A *very* nice heirloom; this is a wonderful rig that is worth some serious money. Treasure it as you treasure your granddad's memory.

Re: your question "would it have been issued to a military unit or just police?"; you should understand that police units were deployed with the military on the front, especially in the east, and were widely engaged in both combat operations and "sonderkommando" activities directed against partisans and also, shamefully, civilians who happened to be of the wrong ethnic group.

Sounds like a great rig and worth a lot. Take care of it!
