Gentlemen,
* Thank you for your dBase input & an enlightening post.
* Need to tie up a few loose ends.
(a) Frank...you are correct. 8924_ is the mixed WaA example and the highest reported to date. I made an error in this post when I stated 8849_ was mixed. It is actually not a reported pistol. 8869_ is reported and is a dual sE/655 marked byf'41 example. Sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused.
(b) Bryon: IMO, your i/Side Side Plate number should be 68. Being re-blued, it's possible the added bluing is hiding the leading "6" of a "68" combination. This would be 1 higher than the first 2 digits of your gun's S/N which would be correct.
(c) Navystv: For Mauser Military P.08's made 1939-'42, the original matching sideplate will be numbered 1 higher than the first two digits of the gun's S/N on the inside. You should find the numerals "12" in yours. This for 3 digit gun S/N's and above. Single and two digit gun S/N's are believed to be marked with only the numeral "1". An old collector's observation relayed to me throught the pages of AutoMag. BTW; 1937-1938 chamber dated Mauser P.08's had the exact first two digits inside. No verified pattern I've heard of for "K"'s through 1936's as yet.
* When you see dB think of Don's database. He started a number of us watching/recording S/N's and has only been collecting P.08/mag numbers for a Quadzillion years. I highly recommend the service Don provides for P.08 Mags as a number of collectors now have matching mag P.08's because of this listing. Even if you don't win the SilverEagle29 lottery, the 80+ pages of numbers reveal important transitions and add insight to what correctly went where when, etc. So send your extra mag numbers to Don in an E-Mail. A simple reporting form and categorized/codified recognition chart can be provided to standardize the reportings. Confidentiality is maintained to the degree you desire.
* My 6345_ details are an anomoly because of its VOPO refurbishment:
- Barrel: 6345_ with DDR Crown N. No land diameter marking. No WaA acceptance. Post War new barrel by the East Germans.
- Grips: VOPO black plastic with concentric circle "bullseye" pattern on each.
- Sideplate: 45 outside; 64 inside.
Respectfully,
WR
