Thanks for sharing your war trophy luger!
It looks like it was badly pitted all over, so the nickel plated finish isn't surprising or unusual. Many of those bring back weapons were chrome or nickel plated. The real damage was the heavy buffing that was done before it was plated. If you run your fingers along the edges, they won't be sharp or clean. Most of them have been rounded out and some of the acceptance stamps have been partially rubbed off. The serial numbers are no longer sharp and clear. It may be a "shooter" class luger, however, similar chrome or nickel plated lugers are selling for $1,500 - $2,500 on-line and in gun stores near me. You can buy some nickel plated 9mm to display with the pistol and I'd recommend a wooden display box. But, the bring back story is the really treasure. Keep it with your father's military record. |
