Officers name on Luger,

During WW2, officeers service numbers were prefixed with the letter "O" so I think the inscription belongs to an American officer. Although many records were destroyed of WW2 vintage, the Veterans Administration has many copies of some records and may be able to verify that the "O" number inscription belonged to a GI...

Welcome to the Lugerforum.

The serial number of the gun should be on the front of the frame above the trigger guard. If this is where your "O" number appears, this may be one of the Lugers that was assembled by German factory workers at the Mauser or Krieghoff plants for GI's immediately after these factories were captured.
