One ounce of Gold was worth $35 in 1962, so $40 for a used German Luger was quite a bit back then.

I had the guy with the gun send me a couple of pictures of the barrel and front sight. I hope they come out on here ok as they are from a phone picture. Also, he said the length of the barrel is 7 3/4.I can't see that the front sight has been removed as was earlier suggested.
