Hi Paul, and welcome to the forum.
You are correct about being near the end of that commercial production run. "M1914" is a variation of Lugers which George also mentioned as "1914 Commercial". As Tom and Ed mentioned, it saw a lot of history before making it into your family's hands. This gun is one instance where the additional mark (the 1920) adds to it's history... Marc
