I'm sorry for your loss. I know your pain well. About 8 years ago my dad had to have "Carmen", our 6 year old chocolate Lab put to sleep because of inoperable intestinal issues. I still tear up when I think of that sweet, sweet girl. Sweetest, most intelligent dog I've ever known. When I die, I want to go where she went, heaven or not. Let these facts comfort you, sir: there is almost no love more unconditional, nearly no bond stronger than that of a loving and loved dog. They are only with us for a short time, but that allows us to experience that joy several times in our lives, if we should be so lucky. When the time comes and you are ready, go to a shelter and adopt. She will never be replaced or displaced in your heart, but you have the opportunity to love, and be loved again. |
