Ed, I can't believe you don't like The Rolling Stones and The Doors? Course you are 10 years younger?

The Garand was a BATTLE rifle and one of the best on the Planet during WW2. It was meant for single aimed accurate shots at a distance.

It was not intended for use as a submachine gun...Like the AK47 can be used ...as well as aimed single shots.

The M2 carbine could be more appropriately called an assault rifle because of it's high capacity magazine and the ability to fire full auto.

Gerben is correct, the Sturmgewehr 44 was an amazing platform but IMO not all that different than the MP18 or MP40. The round was small ..I am not sure it could reach too much further or be that much more effective than a 9MM at close range.
