Doug..Pretty nice! How was the image achieved? It doesn't look like hand done scrimshaw...?

It is hand done by a Gent in Virginia Beach- Rick Bowles. Rick is well known in the knife collecting fraternity. He has been the official scrimshander for Randall Made Knives for many years. I don't want to hijack the thread but among the many pieces of his which I have collected over the years, this piece which I commissioned in consulation with the late Carlos Hathcock, GySgt, USMC and his family is probably my favorite. As you can see, he does very fine color scrimshaw as well. The engraving on the Hathcock knife is by David Perdue, the pure silver hilt on Rick's twenty-fifth anniversary knife is from my shop. The handles on the Hathcock Knife and on the knife with the wood duck are elephant ivory. The Florida Panther is scrimshawed on a inlay of elephant ivory, the sheath is covered in cane toad skin by Greg Gutcher, Sullivans Holster Shop, Tampa, Florida. All three knives are Randall Made, Orlando, FL.
Regards, Doug

Doug, (silverknife)
These grips and handles are gorgeous work, by obvious masters! The Turkish set has a really nice fit, as do the Bowles examples. I'd also be interested in the contact info for the legal ivory source; please PM me if not posted--thanks. D.P. |

Thank you for the kind words. Hopefully I am not violating any Forum rules by posting this link to David Warther's web site. I have known him and done business with him for many years as have many of my friends and associates in the custom knife collector's world.
