Initially Mauser offered the pistols in 6" .30 luger and 4" 9mm. This was the result of some technical problems they had with the Swiss design on which they based their pistols.

After those problems were fixed, and the old frames had been used, they were able to offer just about any barrel length. A 4" .30 luger version was made, as well as the 6" 9mm.
